Health, being the only thing more important than socialization, drives all breeding decisions. Every breeding ferret at Ferrets Home is tested by a Board Certified Veterinary Cardiologist through annual cardiac ultrasounds to ensure there is no sign of HCM (hypertrophic cardiomyopathy), a condition found in various breeds, including ferrets.Additionally, every young ferret considered worthy of joining the breeding program is DNA tested for all possible traits and/or genetic predispositions that could potentially contribute to health problems. At Ferrets Home, we are committed to ensuring that our ferrets are healthy and well-cared for, providing a solid foundation for their future families.

Our Health Commitment at Ferrets Home

At Ferrets Home, we are dedicated to ensuring the health and well-being of our beloved ferrets. Below is our unique health commitment designed to provide peace of mind to our ferret buyers:Indoor Companions Only: Our ferrets are sold with the understanding that they are to be kept as indoor pets. Allowing your ferret outside or opting for declawing will void all health guarantees.Spay/Neuter Requirement: To maintain our two-year health guarantee, buyers must provide proof of spay/neuter to us, the breeder.Health Assurance: Each ferret is guaranteed to be negative for FELV and FIV at the time of sale. Additionally, all ferrets are free from internal and external parasites on the date of sale.Health Guarantee: We guarantee that your ferret will be in good health at the time of sale, covering any viral, bacterial, or fungal infections for a period of seven days post-purchase.Genetic Assurance: Our ferrets come with a two-year guarantee against genetic or congenital defects that may adversely affect their health. In the unfortunate event of a death within this period, a necropsy must be performed to determine the cause.Veterinary Check-Up: While it’s not mandatory, we highly recommend that new owners have their ferret examined by a licensed veterinarian within five days of bringing them home.Prompt Action for Illness: If your ferret shows signs of illness during the guarantee period, a veterinary examination is required. Should the vet determine that the illness existed prior to the sale, please contact us immediately. We will cover medical treatment costs, up to the purchase price of the ferret, upon receiving the vet’s statement.Refund Policy: If the ferret passes away due to a pre-existing condition, we will refund the purchase price if warranted. Our total liability will not exceed the sale price of the ferret, minus any medical reimbursements given to the buyer.Right of First Refusal: If for any reason you can no longer care for your ferret, we maintain the “first right of refusal” to reclaim ownership.Health Records: All health records will be included with your final signed sales agreement for your reference.Vaccination Guidelines: We advise you not to administer the FELV vaccine to your ferret. The only vaccination necessary during the first year is the rabies vaccine, which should be given after your ferret is four months old. At Ferrets Home, we believe in fostering lasting bonds between our ferrets and their families. Your commitment to their health is our priority, and together we can ensure a happy and healthy life for your new furry friend!
